A great day of canoeing requires preparation the day before (and it often starts with remembering your water shoes). Here’s our complete checklist for a stress-free trip.
Clothing: the essentials
- Swimsuit (or quick-drying sportswear)
- Shorts + t-shirt
- Water shoes or old sneakers REQUIRED
- Hat or cap
- Sunglasses + strap
- Sunscreen (preferably eco-friendly)
- Lightweight windbreaker (essential from April to May and in September)

Food and drink
The Vézère River will work up an appetite! Depending on the length of your trip, plan accordingly:
- A water bottle or flasks (hydration is essential in the sun)
- Energy snacks (fruit, bars, biscuits)
- A proper picnic if you’re going all day – the riverbanks offer some beautiful spots
Please note: there are no trash cans on the river. Take everything with you. The Vézère is beautiful and clean, let’s help keep it that way!
Valuables
We provide waterproof containers for each boat. Put the following in them:
- Your mobile phone
- Your car keys
- Your wallet
- Your important medications
And pay for your rental BEFORE you leave – we don’t accept credit cards on the riverbank. We’ll take care of it at the departure point.
The Canoë France app: a GPS for the river
Download the free Canoë France app (available on iOS and Android). It allows you to track your location on the river in real time, see the remaining distance to your destination, and access practical information about our base. It’s very useful for long days out.
Booking
During peak season, booking the day before (or earlier) is strongly recommended. Our online shop is open 24/7. Outside of peak season, we can often accommodate walk-ins, but please call us first.
🌿 Our tip: Check the weather forecast the day before! If a storm is predicted, we prefer to postpone for your safety. And even if the weather is nice, make sure you’re well hydrated: the heat is often underestimated when it comes to water. Plan on at least 1.5 liters of water per adult for a half-day.
