Return shuttle after canoeing down the Vézère: how does it work?

This is often the first practical question we get asked: “But how do I get back to my car at the end?” Good question! And the answer is simple: we take care of everything.

The Shuttle System

The descent of the Vézère River is one-way (from Montignac downstream). Upon arrival (Thonac, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, or Tursac, depending on your route), shuttle buses or minibuses will be waiting to take you back to our starting point in Montignac-Lascaux.

These shuttles run hourly. Before launching, simply choose a return time from those offered. That’s all.

Adapt your return to your own pace

Two main types of paddlers:

• Relaxing/Vacation Mode: Choose a generous return window, enjoy a picnic on the riverbank, perhaps a swim… and take your time.
• Sporty/Efficient Mode: Paddle without too many breaks, arrive early at the end, and take the next available shuttle.

In both cases, we’ll never leave you stranded on the riverbank!

Return shuttle times

• Thonac (8 km) → approximately 15 minutes by shuttle
• Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (14 km) → approximately 30 minutes
• Tursac (20 km) → approximately 45 minutes

The roads in the valley are winding (which is what makes them beautiful), so the journeys are a little longer than as the crow flies. But the scenery from the bus is well worth the trip.

What if we want to stop along the way?

Of course, that’s taken care of. If you’d like to take a longer break for a picnic on the riverbank or visit the village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, let our team know at the departure point. We’ll adjust your shuttle schedule accordingly.

Please note: in July and August, the shuttles run more frequently but are also more in demand. Booking a return time slot in advance is strongly recommended.
